Preheat the oven to 450F. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment and set aside.
In a mixing bowl, combine your dries and mix to combine. Add the shortening and butter and cut the butter into the dries until the butter gets to about hazelnut size pieces.
Add the buttermilk and mix just until it comes together. The dough will be sticky and shaggy. Do not overwork it. Place the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out until it's 1" thick. Cut out the biscuits with a biscuit cutter and transfer it to the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 12 minutes until lightly golden brown.
