The Handmaid's Tale: Martha's Bread
A recipe for a quick loaf of bread inspired by the Hulu show, The Handmaid's Tale, starring Elisabeth Moss.
Prep Time 20 minutes mins
Cook Time 30 minutes mins
Total Time 50 minutes mins
- 3 1/2 cups bread flour (15.75oz / 446g)
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 cups warm water, 110F
In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar and let it sit for 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 400F.
After 10 minutes, the mixture should be foamy and bubbly. Add the flour, salt, and yeast and stir until it comes to a ball of dough. Cover and set it aside for 15 minutes.
On a floured surface, knead the dough until it is a smooth ball of dough. This will take around 5 minutes. Roll the dough into a loaf shape and place it into a loaf pan. Cover and set it aside in a warm area for 20 minutes.
Give the top of the loaf a light dusting of rice flour (this is optional). Score the op of the bread with a sharp knife and bake for 15 minutes or until the top of golden brown. Allow it to cool before cutting into it.
