CAB DRIVER: You gotta try the Cincinnati Chili.  It’s chili like you never had, trust me.  L.A. chili, England chili, forget about it. They make it here with cinnamon and chocolate and they serve it over pasta.  Imagine that if you can.

A recipe for Cincinnati Chili inspired by the movie, Anomalisa.

Servings 4 -5

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb - ground beef
  • 1 1/2 tbsp - canola oil
  • 1/2 - red onion small diced
  • 2 - garlic cloves minced
  • 1/2 tsp - cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp - cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp - cumin
  • 1 tbsp - chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp - cayenne or to taste
  • 1 - bay leaf
  • 1 tbsp - apple cider vinegar
  • 7 oz - tomato sauce
  • 3 dashes - Worcestershire
  • 2 cups - beef stock or water
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Place a cast iron pot over high heat. Once hot, add the ground beef and cook until brown. Set the beef aside.
  • Add the onions and garlic and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Add all the spices and mix to combine.
  • Add the vinegar, tomato sauce, worcestershire, and beef. Add the stock and let it simmer for 3 hours. Skim off any fat from the surface.
  • Remove the bay leaf and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • OPTIONAL: Serve with chopped onions, cheese, or pasta.
