Harry Potter: Crabbe and Goyle’s Sleeping Draught Cakes

Harry Potter: Crabbe and Goyle's Sleeping Draught Cakes Recipe

Harry Potter: Crabbe and Goyle’s Sleeping Draught Cupcakes

I’ve got it all worked out, I’ve filled these with a simple Sleeping Draught.  Simple but powerful.

Hermione, Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets

I still have the same thought every time I read or watch this scene from Harry Potter, who would eat cakes they find levitating in the halls?! The answer is obviously, Crabbe and Goyle.  Without hesitation, they snatched these tasty cakes and shoved them in their faces like they’ve been starved for weeks. These tasty cakes are filled with a chamomile and honey cream to mimic the sleeping draught that Hermione filled them with.  You can obviously substitute the chamomile if that isn’t a flavor you enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 86 g - butter softened
  • 85 g - granulated sugar
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 tsp - baking powder
  • 1 tsp - salt
  • 120 g - all purpose flour sifted
  • 90 g - butter softened
  • 400 g - powdered sugar sifted
  • 1 1/2 tsp - chamomile powder
  • 1 tbsp - honey
  • 2-3 tbsp - milk
  • chocolate sprinkles

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350F.  In a mixer bowl, add your softened butter and paddle until soft.  Add the granulated sugar and mix for 3 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time while scraping in between.  Add the sifted dries in two additions.
  • Portion the batter into a prepared cupcake tin with liners.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.  Let the cakes cool before icing.
  • In a mixer bowl, paddle the second amount of butter until soft.  Add the sifted powdered sugar and chamomile powder.  Mix until combined.
  • Add the honey and milk and mix until combined.
  • Take the liners off of the baked cupcakes.  With a pairing knife, cut a hole in the center of the cakes. Fill with just enough buttercream to have the sprinkles adhere on top.  Finish by topping the cakes with sprinkles.
